The Big Read is now ReDiscover!

Home2After 10 years, we’re saying “So long!” to The Big Read, a one-book reading program for Clarendon Hills, Downers Grove, Hinsdale, Indian Prairie, La Grange, La Grange Park, Lisle, Thomas Ford, and Woodridge communities. Instead of selecting a single book for everyone, we’ll focus on one theme, provide multiple reading suggestions, and plan related programs for all ages.

So join us in saying “Welcome!” to ReDiscover. Modeling itself after theme-centered humanities festivals, ReDiscover: Celebrating Home runs mid-March through April. In addition to programs and movie screenings, several home-inspired stories will be featured at book discussions.

Stay tuned for more updates over the coming months!

Is this your first Big Read? Welcome!

Longest RoadWelcome to The Big Read 2014! We’re celebrating 10 years of the Big Read this year, with our selection of The Longest Road by Philip Caputo.

As a cooperative project between nine libraries, the Big Read offers people an opportunity to not only participate in book discussions, but also in our diverse programs that we’ll be offering through March and April. Our programs celebrate elements of the book, allowing for some fun (and informative) experiences! You are encouraged to attend as many programs as you like, and we welcome you to visit all of our terrific libraries!

And —- If this is not your first Big Read, we welcome you back! Just like in years past, you can expect some fantastic programs and lively book discussions. We appreciate all of our Big Read devotees!

Big Read 2012

Thank you to everyone who participated in the Big Read 2012 featuring The Paris Wife by Paula McLain! We had a lot of great book discussions and programs based on The Hemingways and their 1920’s expat lifestyle in Paris, and we hope you enjoyed experiencing all of the wonderful food, music, wine and other fun cultural events held at each of our ten participating libraries. We were especially excited to be able to host the author at our final event, so thank you to Paula McLain for a lovely evening!

Watch for announcements about The Big Read 2013 coming in late fall of this year.
